Village Grove Amenity Covers

Mitchell Metals supplied and installed three structures at Village Grove in Greenville, South Carolina, for Forestar: pickleball court shade covers, a 12′ x 24′ gable picnic pavilion, and an 18-box back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover with its cluster box units. All are Bronze on 6×6 extruded aluminum.
The whole amenity area, not just the mail center
Village Grove is a Forestar community on Old Bramlett Road in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the most involved Mitchell Metals has been in a single community’s amenity package, and it is the clearest example of what the system can do when a developer specifies all of it at once.
Three structures went in: shade covers beside the pickleball courts, a gable picnic pavilion between the pool and the playground, and an 18-box back-to-back mail kiosk cover. Same Bronze finish, same 6×6 extruded aluminum, same roof detail on all three.
Why specifying them together matters
A community that buys its mail cover from one vendor, its pavilion from a second and its court shade from a third ends up with three structures that do not match. Different bronzes, different post profiles, different rooflines — sitting within a few hundred feet of each other where every resident and every prospective buyer sees all three at once.
Specified together, they read as one piece of neighbourhood architecture. That is the whole argument for handling an amenity package as a package, and Village Grove is the project that demonstrates it.
The pickleball shade is the unusual one
Court-side shade is a different problem from a mail cover. It has to shelter people watching and waiting without casting shadow across the playing surface, and it has to sit close to the fence line without crowding the run-off area behind the baseline. A long, shallow flat cover on 6×6 posts does that — depth enough for a bench and a bag, footprint small enough to stay out of the game.
Everything here is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts beside a pool or a court. All three structures are engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with the mail center laid out to the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Before the landscape went in
The picnic pavilion on bare grade during installation, and the same structure once the pool deck, planting and furniture were finished around it.

Structure complete, site still raw — the pavilion went in before the landscape.

Tables in, beds planted, pool open — the amenity area complete.

Why these specs were chosen
Flat configuration. A low, shallow profile that shelters the bench and bag area without throwing shadow onto the playing surface.
6′ x 15′ 2″. Deep enough to be useful court-side, narrow enough to sit against the fence line without crowding the run-off behind the baseline.
6×6 posts and beams. Matched to the pavilion and the mail cover, so all three structures read as one family rather than three purchases.
Bronze on all three. The single most consequential decision here. One finish across the whole amenity area is what makes it look designed.

Who is the builder of the Village Grove community?
Village Grove is a Forestar community in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina, built by the Forestar Greenville. What are the specifications of the Village Grove structure?
The structure is a flat CBU mail kiosk cover measuring 6′ x 15′ 2″, finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 6×6 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.
Can one manufacturer supply a community's whole amenity package?
Yes, and Village Grove is the example. Mitchell Metals supplied pickleball court shade, a picnic pavilion and an 18-box mail kiosk cover for the same community, all from the same pre-engineered extruded aluminum system in the same Bronze finish. One submittal, one schedule, and three structures that visibly match.
What is a pickleball court shade cover?
A low, shallow canopy set beside a pickleball court to shelter the bench and bag area. It has to give real cover without casting shadow across the playing surface, and it has to sit close to the fence line without crowding the run-off space behind the baseline, which is why a flat configuration on a narrow footprint suits it better than a pitched roof.
