Wildbrook Standard CBU & Mail Kiosk Cover

Mitchell Metals fabricated and installed a 7′ 6″ x 22′ 2″ standard CBU mail kiosk cover at Wildbrook in Waynesville, North Carolina, for D.R. Horton Asheville. The structure is Bronze on 4×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams with a 6-box capacity, supplied as a cover only.
What a cover-only scope actually looks like
Wildbrook is a D.R. Horton community on Jonathan Creek Road in Waynesville, North Carolina, in Haywood County — the Blue Ridge, about thirty miles west of Asheville.
The boxes are not ours, and the photographs show it
Every picture on this page shows an empty canopy on a fresh pad. That is not an unfinished job; it is an accurate record of the scope. Mitchell Metals supplied and installed the cover. The cluster box units were the builder’s, set afterwards by others, and nobody went back with a camera once they were in.
It is worth showing anyway. Most of the photography in this portfolio arrives after the boxes are in and the sod is down, which is the flattering moment. This is the other one — the structure on its own, square and level on a pad in a mountain valley, which is exactly what a cover-only order delivers and exactly when it is handed over.
Why 4×6 at twenty-two feet
A standard cover carries its roof on posts at each end of the run with the slope shedding to one side. At twenty-two feet, 4×6 extruded aluminum is the correct section — heavy enough for the span and the Haywood County snow load, light enough that the structure does not look overbuilt beside a six-box run.
The frame is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts, which matters more at elevation in western North Carolina than it does in the Piedmont. It is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen
Standard configuration. Posts at each end of the run, roof shedding to one side. The plain option, and the right one for a six-box run.
7′ 6″ x 22′ 2″. Six cluster box units in a single row, with depth enough to open a box door out of the weather.
4×6 posts and beams. Correct for a twenty-two-foot span and a mountain snow load, without looking overbuilt.
Cover only. The cluster box units were the builder’s. The canopy was dimensioned to the run that was going under it.
Frequently asked questions about this project
Who built the CBU mail kiosk cover at Wildbrook in Waynesville, NC?
Mitchell Metals, LLC of Marietta, Georgia manufactured and installed the 7' 6" x 22' 2" CBU mail kiosk cover at Wildbrook. The structure is Bronze on 4x6 extruded aluminum posts and beams.
Who is the builder of the Wildbrook community?
Wildbrook is a D.R. Horton community in Waynesville, Haywood County, North Carolina, built by the D.R. Horton Asheville. The largest homebuilder in the United States by volume, founded in 1978 and having built more than one million homes.
What are the specifications of the Wildbrook structure?
The structure is a standard CBU mail kiosk cover measuring 7' 6" x 22' 2", finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 4x6 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.
Why are there no mailboxes in these photographs?
Because the scope was the cover only. Mitchell Metals fabricated and installed the canopy; the cluster box units were supplied by the builder and set afterwards. The photographs were taken at handover, which is when a cover-only job finishes. On turnkey projects — where Mitchell Metals supplies the boxes as well — the structure and the units go in together and the photographs show both.
How many D.R. Horton divisions does Mitchell Metals work with?
Six — Greensboro, Asheville, North-East Tennessee, Knoxville, Atlanta and Birmingham — across communities in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Each division purchases separately, so each one is a decision made on its own.
