In short

Mitchell Metals fabricated and installed a 16′ x 16′ gable picnic pavilion at Trillium Reserve in Fairburn, Georgia, for Brent Holdings. The structure is Bronze on 6×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams, sited beside the community playground as a shared gathering space.

Overview

The structure parents actually use

Trillium Reserve is a single-family community on Fayetteville Road in Fairburn, Georgia, in south Fulton County. The pavilion sits beside the playground, on a slab cut into the slope above it.

Why it is next to the playground and not the pool

A pavilion on its own is a photograph. A pavilion within sight of the play equipment is furniture. Parents sit under cover, children are twenty feet away and visible, and the amenity gets used on a Tuesday afternoon rather than twice a year at community events.

Sixteen by sixteen is the smallest footprint worth building for that job. It takes two picnic tables with room to walk between them, which is enough for several families at once without being a structure the community has to justify.

Gable, with the truss left showing

The roof is a gable with an exposed truss in each end. None of that is structurally necessary at sixteen feet — a flat canopy would carry the same load with less material. It is there because an amenity structure is looked at as well as stood under, and a pitched roof with visible framing reads as architecture rather than as a shelter in a car park.

The frame is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts and nothing needs painting — which for an outdoor structure a hundred yards from the nearest hose is the difference between a maintenance item and a fixture. It is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.

Why these specs were chosen

16′ x 16′. Two picnic tables with room to walk between them. The smallest footprint that genuinely holds several families.

Beside the playground. Within sight of the play equipment, which is what turns an amenity into furniture rather than a photograph.

Gable with exposed truss. Not structurally necessary at sixteen feet. It is there because the structure is looked at as well as stood under.

Extruded aluminum. Nothing rusts and nothing needs painting — the difference between a fixture and a maintenance item.

Frequently asked questions about this project

Mitchell Metals, LLC of Marietta, Georgia manufactured and installed the 16' x 16' picnic pavilion at Trillium Reserve. The structure is Bronze on 6x6 extruded aluminum posts and beams.

Trillium Reserve is a Brent Holdings community in Fairburn, Fulton County, Georgia, built by the Brent Holdings — Atlanta. A Georgia land development company and the developer of Trillium Reserve in Fairburn, south-west of Atlanta.

The structure is a gable picnic pavilion measuring 16' x 16', finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 6x6 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.

A 16' x 16' gable pavilion takes two picnic tables with room to move between them, which suits a single-family community of a few dozen to a couple of hundred homes. Larger communities move to 16' x 28' or beyond. Below sixteen feet square the structure stops holding more than one family at a time and the amenity argument weakens.

Yes — picnic pavilions, bus stop covers, pool and playground shade, pickleball court shade, bench and bike rack covers, and walkway covers, all from the same pre-engineered extruded aluminum system as the CBU mail kiosk covers. Specifying them together is how a community ends up with structures that match. Call 470-870-7733.
