Sweetwater Hills 12-Box Back-to-Back CBU Cover

Mitchell Metals supplied and installed a 12-box back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover at Sweetwater Hills in Moore, South Carolina, for PulteGroup. The structure measures 9′ 6″ x 22′ 2″ in Bronze on 4×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams, and was the first project with the PulteGroup Greenville division.
The first one with Pulte, and not the last
Sweetwater Hills is a PulteGroup community on South Sweetwater Hills Drive in Moore, South Carolina, in Spartanburg County. It was the first mail center Mitchell Metals built for the PulteGroup Greenville division.
PulteGroup is the third-largest homebuilder in the United States — founded in 1950, headquartered in Atlanta, more than 775,000 homes built across 45 markets in 23 states under the Pulte Homes, Centex, Del Webb and DiVosta brands. A first project with a builder at that scale is worth getting right.
What happened next is the actual story
Several more projects have followed with the same division since this one. That is the only review that means anything in this trade. A first installation gets you one job; the crew showing up when they said they would, the submittal clearing without a fight, and nobody chasing anyone at closeout is what gets you the second, third and fourth.
Sized correctly, not sized up
Twelve boxes back-to-back across twenty-two feet, on 4×6 posts rather than 6×6. The lighter section is the right one for a span this length — it carries the load with margin and keeps the structure proportionate. Putting 6×6 on a twenty-two-foot canopy would have been over-building, and it would have looked it.
The landscaping around it is worth noticing too. Ornamental grasses along the approach walk, beds set back from the pad — the mail center was designed into the streetscape rather than parked at the edge of it.
The frame is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts. It is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen
Back-to-back configuration. Twelve boxes in two banks under one roof on one pad — the efficient layout once a community’s mail volume outgrows a single row.
4×6 posts and beams, not 6×6. Correct for a twenty-two-foot span. The heavier section would have carried the load equally well and looked over-built on a structure this size.
9′ 6″ depth. Full cover over both banks with standing room clear of the drip line.
Turnkey supply. Boxes and cover together — one submittal and one schedule, which is what a production builder’s cycle time actually depends on.
Frequently asked questions about this project
Who built the CBU mail kiosk cover at Sweetwater Hills in Moore, SC?
Mitchell Metals, LLC of Marietta, Georgia manufactured and installed the 9′ 6″ x 22′ 2″ CBU mail kiosk cover at Sweetwater Hills. The structure is Bronze on 4×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams.
Who is the builder of the Sweetwater Hills community?
Sweetwater Hills is a PulteGroup community in Moore, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, built by the PulteGroup Greenville. Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Atlanta, PulteGroup is the third-largest homebuilder in the United States, with more than 775,000 homes built across 45 markets in 23 states under the Pulte Homes, Centex, Del Webb and DiVosta brands.
What are the specifications of the Sweetwater Hills structure?
The structure is a back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover measuring 9′ 6″ x 22′ 2″, finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 4×6 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.
When should a CBU cover use 4x6 posts instead of 6x6?
Post size follows span. A twenty-two-foot canopy like Sweetwater Hills is correctly built on 4×6 extruded aluminum — it carries the load with margin and stays proportionate to the structure. Longer runs of thirty-five feet and up generally move to 6×6, both for the load and for the visual weight a bigger roof needs. Bigger is not better; correct is better.
