In short

Mitchell Metals supplied and installed a 9′ 6″ x 20′ 2″ back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover at Glenlakes in Foley, Alabama, for the Lennar Gulf Coast Division. The structure is Bronze on 6×8 extruded aluminum posts, upsized from 6×6 for coastal wind loads, with a 10-box capacity delivered turnkey.

Overview

The same system, two streets over

Glenlakes is a Lennar community on Clarke Ridge Road in Foley, Alabama, in Baldwin County — the second of two Foley communities Mitchell Metals delivered in the same period, with Grasslands nearby and Greenfields up the road in Fairhope.

Three communities, one specification

Greenfields, Grasslands and Glenlakes were built to the same engineering decision and the same finish, in three different sizes and two different configurations. That is what a product line is for. The division specified once; what changed between sites was the box count and the geometry, not the system.

Why the posts are 6×8

Baldwin County sits on the Alabama coast, and the design wind speed there is in a different band from inland Georgia. The response was not a different canopy — it was the same pre-engineered system with the posts stepped up from 6×6 to 6×8. That is the advantage of engineering a product line rather than a one-off: the structure that answers a higher wind load is the structure you already build, in a heavier section.

At twenty feet this is the shortest of the three, holding ten cluster box units in a back-to-back arrangement — two rows spine to spine under one roof. In a single-sided run the same ten boxes would have taken close to thirty-five feet of frontage.

Supplied turnkey at Glenlakes, cover and cluster box units together. The frame is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts. It is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen

Back-to-back configuration. Ten boxes in twenty feet instead of thirty-five. Half the frontage out of the streetscape.

6×8 posts, not 6×6. The same Gulf Coast wind decision as Greenfields and Grasslands, applied across all three communities.

9′ 6″ x 20′ 2″. The shortest of the three Lennar Gulf Coast structures, on the same depth as Grasslands.

Turnkey supply. Cover and cluster box units together — one scope, one schedule.

Frequently asked questions about this project

Mitchell Metals, LLC of Marietta, Georgia manufactured and installed the 9' 6" x 20' 2" CBU mail kiosk cover at Glenlakes. The structure is Bronze on 6x8 extruded aluminum posts and beams.

Glenlakes is a Lennar community in Foley, Baldwin County, Alabama, built by the Lennar Gulf Coast Division. One of the largest homebuilders in the United States, founded in 1954 and operating across more than twenty states. The Gulf Coast division builds in the Mobile and Baldwin County markets of coastal Alabama.

The structure is a back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover measuring 9' 6" x 20' 2", finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 6x8 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.

That is the usual outcome once a specification works. Lennar's Gulf Coast Division used the same finish, the same 6x8 post section and the same engineering basis across Greenfields in Fairhope, Grasslands in Foley and Glenlakes in Foley. What varied between the three was box count and configuration — cantilever at one, back-to-back at the other two — which is the part that should vary with the site.

Cover only means Mitchell Metals fabricates and installs the canopy over cluster box units the builder has already provided. Turnkey means the cluster box units are supplied and installed too, so the mail center is one scope from one party. Glenlakes was turnkey; Grasslands and Greenfields were cover only.
