In short

Mitchell Metals fabricated an 8′ x 18′ 2″ cantilever CBU mail kiosk cover for Woodcrest Estates in Wooster, Ohio, for Schlabach Builders. The structure is Bronze on 6×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams with a 5-box capacity. It was supplied as material only and installed by the builder.

Overview

Ohio, and a canopy that arrived in a crate

Woodcrest Estates is a Schlabach Builders community on Melrose Drive in Wooster, Ohio, in Wayne County between Cleveland and Columbus. It is Mitchell Metals’ first project in Ohio, and the furthest north the company has delivered.

What supply-only actually tests

On most of these projects Mitchell Metals fabricates the canopy and installs it. Here the scope stopped at the loading dock: the structure was engineered, cut, finished and crated in Marietta, shipped to Ohio, and set by Schlabach Builders’ own crews with no Mitchell Metals installer on site.

That is a harder test than it sounds. An installing manufacturer can absorb a small error — a hole in the wrong place gets drilled on site and nobody hears about it. A supply-only package cannot. Everything has to be right in the crate, because the people opening it have never built one before and are working from the drawings alone.

It went together. The photographs are the builder’s, taken after the landscaping was finished, and the structure in them is square, level and sitting where it was meant to sit. That is the whole argument for pre-engineering: the system does not depend on the person assembling it having built one before.

Why a cantilever in Ohio

A cantilever carries its roof on one line of posts set behind the boxes, so the frontage stays clear. In a northern climate that also means nothing stands in the path of a plough or a shovel on the approach side, and snow sheds off a single slope away from the people using the boxes rather than onto them.

The frame is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts — worth having in a state that salts its roads for four months of the year. It is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads, which in Wayne County means a meaningfully higher ground snow load than anywhere else in this portfolio.

Why these specs were chosen

Supply only. Engineered, fabricated, finished and crated in Marietta; set by the builder’s crews in Ohio. Everything had to be right before it shipped.

Cantilever configuration. One post line behind the boxes. Clear frontage, and snow sheds away from the people using the mail center rather than onto them.

6×6 posts and beams. A cantilevered roof puts bending into its posts, and an Ohio snow load puts more of it there than a Georgia one does.

Extruded aluminum. Nothing on the frame rusts, in a state that salts its roads from November to March.

Yes. A supply-only package means the canopy is engineered, fabricated, finished and crated in Marietta, Georgia and shipped to site, where the builder's own crews set it. Woodcrest Estates and Gilchrist Estates in Ohio were both delivered this way. It suits builders who already have crews and equipment on site, and it works because the structures are pre-engineered — what arrives is a known system with known connections, not a pile of parts to be figured out.

Yes. Mitchell Metals manufactures in Marietta, Georgia and delivers nationally — the Southeast, the Alabama Gulf Coast, Ohio, the Pacific Northwest and California.
