Overview

Two mail centers, one community

Branford Crossing is a Forestar community on Davidson Parkway South in Stockbridge, Georgia, in Henry County. It is the second community Mitchell Metals has delivered for the Forestar Atlanta East Division, after Teamon Pointe in Griffin.

It needed two mail centers rather than one: a 10-box and an 8-box, both back-to-back. Branford Crossing carries both single-family homes and townhomes, and the two housing types sit far enough apart that one central mail center would have meant a long walk for half the community.

When one mail center is not enough

The USPS guidance that governs cluster box placement is about how far residents should have to travel to collect their post. Past a certain community size and layout, a single centralised mail center stops satisfying that no matter how large you build it — and building one enormous bank is the wrong answer anyway, because the queue and the parking both get worse.

Two properly sized centres, each serving the homes around it, is the better solution. Both were built to the same specification so the community reads consistently: same Bronze, same 6×6 profile, same roof detail, different capacities.

Both are extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts. Both are engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen

Two centres, not one. A community carrying both single-family homes and townhomes, spread far enough apart that one central mail center would leave half the residents with a long walk.

Back-to-back on both. Two banks under one roof on one pad at each location — the efficient layout once a bank outgrows a single row.

6×6 posts and beams on both. Matched across both structures so the community reads consistently even though the capacities differ.

Identical specification. Same Bronze, same profile, same roof detail. Two mail centers that look like they belong to the same place.

USPS guidance on cluster box placement is concerned with how far residents travel to collect post. Once a community is large enough, or its housing types are spread far enough apart, a single central mail center stops satisfying that regardless of how many boxes it holds. Two properly sized centres serving their own clusters of homes works better than one oversized bank — the walk is shorter and the queue and parking are both easier.

They should be. At Branford Crossing both covers are back-to-back, Bronze, on 6×6 extruded aluminum with the same roof detail — only the capacities differ. Built from one pre-engineered system at the same time, matching costs nothing; bought separately, it rarely happens.
