In short

Mitchell Metals supplied and installed a 20-box back-to-back CBU mail kiosk cover at Teamon Pointe in Griffin, Georgia, for Forestar. The structure measures 9′ 6″ x 38′ 2″ in Bronze on 6×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams, and was the first project for the Forestar Atlanta East Division.

Overview

A first with a division, at twenty boxes

Teamon Pointe is a Forestar community on Teamon Road in Griffin, Georgia, south of Atlanta in Spalding County. It is the first project Mitchell Metals completed for the Forestar Atlanta East Division.

Forestar is worth a word of its own. It is not a homebuilder — it is a residential lot developer, acquiring entitled land and delivering finished lots to builders across 51 markets in 21 states. It has been majority-owned by D.R. Horton since 2017. Which means the mail center is often one of the last things a developer like Forestar puts in before handing lots over, and it had better be right.

Twenty boxes is a large community’s problem

A twenty-box mail center serves a lot of homes. Laid out in a single row it would run close to seventy feet and dominate whatever island it sat on. Back-to-back folds it in half: two banks of cluster boxes under one roof on one pad, thirty-eight feet instead of seventy.

That halves the concrete, keeps the footprint to something a neighbourhood island can actually hold, and lets residents collect mail from either side without queuing behind each other.

Sized up, not scaled down

At 9′ 6″ deep the roof covers both banks of boxes with room to stand clear of the drip line on either side — which is the point of a cover and the thing a shallow canopy gets wrong. The 6×6 posts and beams carry a thirty-eight-foot span and give the structure the visual weight a community of this size expects at its centre.

Everything is extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts. The system is engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen

Back-to-back configuration. Twenty boxes in a single row would run close to seventy feet. Folded back-to-back it is thirty-eight — half the pad, half the footprint, the same capacity.

9′ 6″ depth. Enough roof to cover both banks of boxes and leave standing room clear of the drip line on either side.

6×6 posts and beams. Sized to a thirty-eight-foot span, and heavy enough to anchor the centre of a large community.

Turnkey supply. Boxes and cover from one vendor on one schedule — which matters most on a developer’s project, where the mail center is one of the last items before lots change hands.

Forestar Group Inc. is a residential lot developer rather than a homebuilder. It acquires entitled land, develops finished lots, and sells them to builders, operating across 51 markets in 21 states. It has been majority-owned by D.R. Horton since 2017. For a lot developer the mail center is often among the final pieces of infrastructure before lots transfer, which puts a premium on a predictable schedule.

A cluster box unit typically carries a number of individual mailbox doors plus parcel lockers, so a twenty-unit installation serves a substantial community. The practical constraint is usually footprint rather than capacity, which is why larger counts are built back-to-back — two banks under one roof on one pad instead of one very long row.
