In short

Mitchell Metals supplied and installed a 7′ 6″ x 22′ 2″ standard CBU mail kiosk cover and a bus stop cover at Villas of Shoal Creek in Athens, Georgia, for Homeside Construction. The mail center was delivered turnkey with six cluster box units; both structures are Bronze on 6×6 extruded aluminum posts and beams.

Overview

Two structures, one mobilisation

Villas of Shoal Creek is a single-family community on Lexington Road in Athens, Georgia, in Clarke County. Mitchell Metals’ customer was Homeside Construction, the contractor holding the site scope; the homes are D.R. Horton’s.

Why both structures went in together

A mail center and a bus stop cover are different products doing different jobs at opposite ends of a community. They are also the same pre-engineered aluminum system in two sizes, which means one order, one delivery, one crew and one visit. Specified separately they would have been two mobilisations and two schedules to coordinate.

The mail center was supplied turnkey: six cluster box units as well as the cover, so the pad, the boxes and the canopy arrived as one scope with one party responsible for them agreeing with each other. The bus stop cover is a cover only — there is nothing underneath it but people.

What a bus stop cover is for

It is the smallest structure Mitchell Metals makes and the one with the most disproportionate effect. A covered stop tells a family touring the community that somebody thought about the school-morning routine as well as the floor plans, and it keeps children dry in a part of Georgia that gets fifty inches of rain a year.

Both frames are extruded aluminum, so nothing rusts. They are engineered to ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements, with cluster box placement following the USPS Builders/Developers Guide.

Why these specs were chosen

Two structures, one order. A mail center and a bus stop cover from the same system — one delivery, one crew, one visit instead of two.

Standard configuration. A single-slope roof on one post line. The quiet option, and the right one for a six-box run beside a walk.

Turnkey on the mail center. Boxes and cover from one source, so the pad, the units and the canopy agree with each other by construction.

6×6 posts and beams. Matched across both structures, so the two read as a set rather than as two separate purchases.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about this project

Mitchell Metals, LLC of Marietta, Georgia manufactured and installed the 7' 6" x 22' 2" CBU mail kiosk cover at Villas of Shoal Creek. The structure is Bronze on 6x6 extruded aluminum posts and beams.

Villas of Shoal Creek is a Homeside Construction community in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia, built by the Homeside Construction — Athens. A Georgia construction company delivering site and amenity scopes for residential developments, including the Villas of Shoal Creek community in Athens.

The structure is a standard CBU mail kiosk cover measuring 7' 6" x 22' 2", finished in Bronze. Posts and beams are 6x6 extruded aluminum. It is rated for ASCE 7-16 wind and snow loads and designed to meet ADA and IBC requirements.

That is the efficient way to do it. Both are built from the same pre-engineered extruded aluminum system in different sizes, so ordering them together means one fabrication run, one delivery and one installation visit rather than two of each. They also match, which is visible to anyone driving through the community.

Very little. A bus stop cover is typically the smallest structure on the site — a pad, a single line of posts and a roof reaching over it — and it goes at the entrance or at the pickup point where there is already hard standing. It is the cheapest signal a developer can send that the community was designed for families.
